Blue Jay - A Link Between Heaven and Earth

Not only did I find a beautiful Blue Jay tail feather ( cobalt blue with black horizontal stripes) when I went on my walk in the woods, a couple of weeks later one tried to fly into my office. He hit the window as if he didn't know there was glass there. In my meditation area by the duck pond, Blue Jays have been everywhere. One even landed on a low branch in front of me and looked me right in the face. Ok, I give!

Blue Jay, what have you come to teach me. Upon researching it out I am coming up with some incredibly insightful advice and an obvious message from this brilliant animal guide. Blue Jay (particularly as a totem) reflects lessons in using your own power properly; as well as not allowing yourself to be placed in a position in which power is used against you.

The word "jay" comes from the Latin "gaia" or "gaea" - Mother Earth. In Greek mythology the union of Mother Earth (Gaea) and Father Heaven (Uranus) resulted in the first creatures who had the appearance of life. This ability is reflected in the jay's ability to link heaven and earth; to access each for greater power. The black and white markings found on jay's wings reflect this same ability. The sky (blue) separates the Heavens (white) and the Earth (black). The blue jay as a totem can move between both heaven and earth and tap into the energies of both.

The crest on the jay's head is symbolic of higher knowledge that can be used when focused. It is a reminder that to wear the crown of true mastership requires dedication, responsibility and committed development in all things in the physical and spiritual.

No doubt, the Blue Jay feather will go on my wand!
